    American School for the Deaf
    American School for the Deaf was first called the American Asylum for the Education and Instruction of the Deaf and Dumb. It was founded in Hartford, Connecticut by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc. It was the first school for the deaf in the United States and became a state-supported school in 1817.

    Perkins Institute
    Perkins institute was originally named the New England Asylum for the Blind. Perkins Institute was the first school for the blind in the United States. It was founded by Samuel Gridley Howe and was named in honor of Thomas Handasyd Perkins, who was one of the organization's incorporators.

    Handicapped Children's Early Education Assistance Act
    Handicapped Children's Early Education Assistance Act that provides 75 to 100 model programs for preschool handicapped children. It is a funded model with demonstration of programs for preschools students with disabilities. This was also the first time that Congress approved an action mainly focused on education for all handicapped, without any other legislation.

The court's ruling was that all children with disabilities in the District of Columbia must by provided a publicly supported education.

    This was one of the first disability civil rights law to be enacted in the Unite States. It prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in programs that receive federal financial assistance. It also protects children and adults with disabilities from unequal treatment in schools, jobs and in the community.

    EHA supports states and localities in protecting the rights of meeting the individual needs and improving the results for infants, toddlers, children and youth with disabilities. EHA was changed and reauthorized as IDEA. Before EHA was created children with disabilities were denied access to education and opportunities to learn.

    NCLD is the National Center for Learning and was founded by Carrie and Pete Rozelle. NCLD mission was to help provide leadership, public awareness and innovative practices in learning disabilities. Till today the NCLD leads the field in innovation, research and advocacy.

    ADA is a law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in schools, transportation, public and private places. This law was created to ensure that those with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as those without disabilities. Those with disabilities have similar rights as those of different colors, sex, origin and religion.

    Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
    IDEA is apart of the American legislation that makes sure students with a disability are provided free education that is tailored to their individual needs. It was previously known as Education for All Handicapped Children Act. The six main points are individualized education, free public education, least restrictive environment, appropriate evaluation, parent and teacher participation, and procedural safeguards.

    Assistive Technology Act
    The Assistive Technology for Individuals with Disabilities Act was signed into a law to ensure the continuation of funding for assistive technology. This was created to provide technology to people with disabilities to help ensure a better education, employment and daily activities. Each U.S state receives a grant to fund the Assistive Technology Act Project.
