  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    Brown vs. Board of Education
    Brown vs. Board of Education was a landmark U.S. Supreme Court which stated it was unconstitutional to discriminate and to segregate against a direct group of people in a public school. The court ruled that all resources and opportunities should be provided to everyone in the education system. This case started a massive wave for individuals with disabilities inspiring programs directed to them.

  • Learning Disabilities Association of America

    Learning Disabilities Association of America
    The Learning Disabilities Association of America was made and directed for individuals who have learning disabilities, their goal is to empower and support these individuals while at the same time education their at home support group (parents, teachers, etc). They provide education on different learning disabilities and how they vary on age. They ensure the best quality knowledge on supporting individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)

    Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)
    The ESEA Act of 1965 was part of the "War on Poverty", the law was signed by President Lyndon B.Johnson and enforced by the U.S government. The law was aimed to provide and shield low income students from inequality of educational programs and institutions. They provided federal funding, free & reduced lunch, and as well provide grants to help students with disabilities in their education.

  • National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities

    National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities
    The National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities was made to act like an advocate, provide understanding, address and decrease problems, increase resources and benefits for individuals with disabilities. They also try to form the best possible skill sets for students with learning disabilities that have been placed in a general educational classroom. The committee also branch out toward other organizations to try gain the most knowledge and effect nationally.
  • Education For All Handicapped Children Act

    Education For All Handicapped Children Act
    The Education For All Handicapped Children Act was a law that guaranteed any one from the age of 5 to 18 free and appropriate public education, commonly known as FAPE. The act also stated that all individuals with a disability are entitled or required to have Individual Education Program (IEPs). This helped solidify educational opportunities for children with disabilities at an equal standpoint for children without disabilities.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act

    Americans with Disabilities Act
    The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), was made to prohibit any type of discrimination against rotect people with disabilities in any private sectors and public life. This includes basic livings like transportation, jobs, schools, public accommodations, telecommunications, etc. The act is made to set a boundary of life and protect their opportunities and accessibility’s in the world
  • Cedar Rapids v. Garret F.

    Cedar Rapids v. Garret F.
    Cedar Rapids v. Garret F. was a case that occurred in 1999 in which a little boy around the age of 4 was paralyzed, Garret required nursing services in which the school board denied. The case was put on hearing under the IDEA which stated that all school districts and schools that fall under the act must provide the student with the nursing services on all school days, at no extra cost for the parent. This helps keep the educational opportunities available for children with disabilities.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
    NLCB Act of 2002 pushed for school districts to improve their educations and their educational responsibilities toward children by holding them accountable for student performance on statewide standard assessments. The act also improved the concept of testing accommodations, because schools started to design testing rooms based on students disability to provide full concentration on their skill set.
  • Continuum of Educational Services

    Continuum of Educational Services
    Continuum of Educational Services came to be from the IDEIA Act of 2004. These services refer to the fact that all students with disabilities must be provided with full range of options that support their individual and various needs, whether it be in general educational classroom to a more specialized program. The continuum of educational services is meant to provide a least restrictive environment.
