This act caters to the student and their individual needs through the use of an IEP, rather than a generalized standard. In addition, IDEA provided families with the right to due process and for their child's information to remain confidential. -

This amendment called for many additions to the original outline including systems like Child Find, Response to Intervention (RTI), and the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Child Find is a way of tracking students with disabilties and provides resources. RTI involves permitting research-based procedures to determine if students have severe intellectual disabilities. LRE is creating an environment most similar to a setting of students without disabilties. -
