Hot or Not was born to a group of low self-esteem youth. Here, you would upload a picture of yourself and others would rate you based on your appearance. It was an easy way to achieve a boost in confidence and show your friends just how amazing you were.

Myspace
A site existed prior to Myspace called Friendster that was very similar. Once Myspace was created, the users left Friendster and took up prime real estate in Myspace. What Myspace lacked was privacy and that's what made it so popular to the youth of the 2000's.

They offered users paid premium packages that allowed them to bring in a profit three years earlier than Facebook. In my opinion, this is still one of the fastest growing social networks that is not used by a lot of creators or businesses.

This year was some of the most beneficial to the world of social media. Creators began understanding what users wanted from the internet and created platforms that went along with their lifestyle. Creators that began their Youtube presence in 2006 now how upwards of 10 million subscribers on the platform.

Here Comes the Hashtag
The hashtag was originally created on Twitter to help organize topics submitted by individual profiles. You could look up a specific hashtag to see what people were saying about it. On Twitter, hashtags are mainly used to express emotion rather than just organize posts.

The start of the photo revolution. Before this, many individuals were not too particular in how their pictures appeared to others. Instagram turned everyone into a professional photographer with their filters and ways of connecting users to each other through photos.

Elonis vs US
Elonis was arrested and charged with five counts of violating a federal anti-threat statute. Elonis was stating that these were not meant to be threatening and he was an aspiring rap artist that was simply expressing his opinion. The case made it all the way up to the Supreme Court.
