Saint Petersburg becomes the capital of the Russian Empire
Saint Petersburg was founded the Peter the Great who is actuallt the subject of the city's iconic “Bronze Horseman” statue. Although the city is not the capital anymore, it is still a great place to visit as it is the cultural centre of Russia. -

Peter the Great dies and his second wife , Catherine 1, reigns as Empress of Russia until she dies at the age of 43, in 1727, 2 years after the death of Peter the Great. -

The war between Russia and Turkey was against the Ottoman Empire. -

This earthquake happened on the far eastern end of Russia. The epicentre (middle point of the earthquake) was located at 52.5°N 159.5°E. -

This war was the last major conflict before the French Revolution. It was a global war The conflict split Europe into two groups, led by the Kingdom of Great Britain at the time on one side and the Kingdom of France, the Russian Empire (until 1762), the Kingdom of Spain, and the Swedish Empire on the other. -

Russia sold Alaska to the United States for $7.2 million which obviously caused Russia to become a little bit smaller. -

Operation Barbarossa was the code name for the invasion of the Soviet Union, which started on Sunday, 22 June 1941, during World War II. Russia joined the Allies after this conflict. -
Nuclear disaster
The Kyshtym Disaster was a radioactive contamination accident that occurred in 1957 at Mayak. It was measured as a Level 6 disaster, the third most serious nuclear disaster ever recorded. This is according to the INES. -
Vladimir Putin is elected president.
Vladimir Putin was elected in 2000 and is still the president of Russia. He is loved by his country and his people, they treat him like a king, even though lots of people have compared him to Hitler and said that he is the "Modern Day Hitler" as his actions and his behaviour is similar to Hitler's. For example, he doesn't like black people. -
Russian wildfires
This was a series of wildfires that broke out mainly during the summer of 2010 in Russia. 2000 buildings were destroyed because of these wildfires over an area of 3,000 km².
