Due to the Great Depression, people sought out a way to get cheap entertainment. Radio became the perfect form of entertainment for people. This golden era occurred between 1930 and 1940.

After the invention of TV, Radio became less popular, and less appealing to people. This forced radio broadcasters to start airing music on the radio, and allowed radio to maintain purpose in peoples homes.
