Radio through the early 20th century
The 1930's were on of the best years for radio. The radio in the early 20th century was the common form of entertainment. The amount of Americans that owned a radio went from 12 million to about 28 million. Radio programs would broadcast soap operas like 'Our Gal Sunday', 'The Lone Ranger', and 'One Man's Family'. The radio was also used for recent news for example in 1937 when the Hindenburg exploded. -
Radio in the 1950's
By the 1950s, mostly every country had a broadcasting system, mostly one station was run and owned by the government. Alternative modes included commercial radio, as in the United States; or a dual system with both state sponsored and commercial stations, introduced in Australia as early as 1924, with Canada following in 1932. Late 20th Century Radio Inventions
In 1960 Sony invented the first transistorized radio, small enough to fit in a vest pocket, and it was powered by a small battery. Over the next twenty years, transistors displaced tubes almost completely except for picture tubes and very high power or very high frequency uses. -
Internet Radio
Online radio stations were first broadcasted in the early 1990s and did not take off right away. The stations had to show themselves to reach their target audience. Some radio stations were streaming broadcasts of music, talk shows, and some Internet radio is also considered to be a music library of songs found online. -
Radio in the 21st Century
A new form of radio which is gaining popularity is satellite radio. It has made the sound more clear to hear and is not regulated by the government. Other Internet radio stations like 2012, Pandora and other subscription-based and free Internet radio services accounted for nearly one quarter of the average weekly music listening time
