    First telephone created was made by Alexander Graham Bell. He made a call to his assistant Watson, making it the first official telephone. He gave it the name "electrical speech machine." He is credited as the one who invented the telephone, but there have been other people who made telegraphs.
  • Bell Telephone Company Founded

    Bell Telephone Company Founded
    Alexander Graham Bell creates his own company. It was organized by his father-in-law. 3,000 private telephones were active after establishing the company.
  • Dial-Up Phone

    The first dial-up phone was made by Almon Stowger. He announced the first telephone to not go through the company to call, rather automatically to the person.
  • First Long Distance Phone Call

    In 1915, two men made the first transcontinental phone call. This phone call was made from New York to California, approximately 3,400 miles.

    The first free-standing dial telephone was introduced in 1919. This influenced the 1920s of rotary dial telephone sets.

    Model A1
    The Western Electric company that made the 50AL introduced the first handset telephone. This made it easier for users to do other things while on the phone. The handset was based off of the 50AL.
  • Model 302

    Model 302
    After introducing model 102 and 202 specifically used for a handset, model 302 was created to include the network circuitry and the ringer in the base unit. It was the most widely used telephone in America at the time. Production started in 1937 and ended in 1955.
  • Model 500

    The Model 500 was first introduced in 1949. It became the standard telephone set present in most homes. It was the most widely used and produced dial telephone. This telephone set is very durable and some still use it today. Its simplified repair attracted many customers to buy it. These telephone sets were most common from 1949-1984.
  • Model 5302

    Model 5302
    Henry Drefuss created a rounded form of the telephone which was made out of plastic. Metal was needed for the wars which led to companies switching to plastic. It was a more modern telephone to meet the demands of customers.
  • Push-Button Telephone

    The push-button telephone was formally introduced in the early 1970s. It could store phone numbers on MOS memory for speed dialing. It was not as widely used as the Model 500.
  • First Handheld Cell Phone

    Martin Cooper invented the first handheld cell phone. The battery life was very short, lasting 35 minutes before needing to charge for 10 hours.
  • DynaTAC 8000x

    After a handful of other models created, the first OFFICIAL cordless or mobile phone was introduced by Motorola in 1984. This phone was very expensive, priced at $4,000. It mostly targeted CEOs, entrepreneurs, doctors, and other high paying jobs. You had to pay a high price for cellular service.

    The first flip phone was was designed in 1989, targeting wealthy customers at a price of $3,000. It was not publicly released until 1996. This allowed mobile calls

    The first smart phone was created by IBM in 1992 and released to the public in 1994.
  • Siemens S10

    This was the first phone to bring displays to life. It had color and customization. People were able to receive texts and emails. Games were also incorporated into the phone.

    The first mobile phone with internet service was the Nokia 9000 Communicator. There was very limited availability of accessing the internet in 1996. It wasn't until 1999 where full internet service on phones was introduced by NTT DoCoMo in Japan.

    The first full integration of cell phone service into a Blackberry. Blackberry's were widely used in the 2000s until the iPhones. WiFi was also available on the phone.

    The first iPhone was released on January 9th, 2007. It was the first smartphone to ever be invented. It had many of the features we have on our phones now. After releasing the iPhone, more series were released later in the years.

    The iPhone 5 was where the phones started to get more advanced and popular among teens. Many still had the Blackberry when iPhone 2, 3, and 4 came out. We can see a large switch from Blackberry's to iPhone 5's when it came out.

    Today, we have very advanced cellphones that function like computers. We can pretty much do anything on them. Text, call, facetime, email, web surfing, gaming, or anything else is possible.
