On July 4th, 1776, the thirteen colonies declared their independence from Britain when congress approved the Declaration of Independence. This is significant because this was the first step in the United States becoming their own Nation. -

Rosa Parks refuses to stand up and move to the back of the bus for a white man and she is arrested and fined. This helped spark and motivate the civil rights movement to abolish slavery and segregation once and for all. -
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
Title IX is introduced and passed as an amendment. Title IX States that discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated for either sex. This also means that for every male sport there must be an equal female sport represented at that university thus changing the culture of how many male or female athletes can participate in sports. -
