After the Cuban Revolution, Coral Way Elementary in Florida, was the first bilingual school in the United States to provide an English/Spanish speaking program to students. It impacted the Multicultural Education because it was the first bilingual school for Spanish/English speakers in the U.S. -
Learning Association of America
It offers help to people with learning disabilities. Also to anyone who knows anyone with disabilities, family members, friends or anyone they may know get the information they need and gives them access to resources for those who have a disability to get them the support they need. It has impacted Multicultural Education by allowing people with disabilities to contribute to society like the rest of the people in this country are able to. -
Civil Rights Act
It was created to prohibit discrimination based on race, color, sex, religion or nationality. It impacted Multicultural Education because it allowed all people to feel welcomed and help create change that made others feel equal to the rest of society. -
Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)
Lyndon Johnson created "War on Poverty." It provided federal funds to help low-income students. It results in the initiation of educational programs such as Title I and bilingual education. It impacted Multicultural Education because it provided a program to low income students get the education they needed but also provided programs to people who needed them for particular reasons. -
Shirley Anita St. Hill Chisholm
Shirley was the first African American educator to becomes the first African American woman to serve in the U.S. Congress. This impacted Multicultural Education by allowing a woman who was an African American into congress for the very first time in history! -
Indian Education Act
Help and support the needs of American Indian and Alaska Native students. It was a major change and impacted the Multicultural Education by allowing American Indian's and Alaskan Indian's to have access to programs for both children and adults. -
Title IX, Education Amendments of 1972
Title IX states that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in and be denied the benefits of or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. It made an impact in Multicultural Education to allow girls and boys to be able to participate in the same activities without allowing them from being excluded or discriminated for their gender. -
National Association of Bilingual Education
The National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) has been a non-profit membership organization that works to advocate for educational equity and excellence for bilingual/multilingual students in a global society. To help them nationwide get the education they deserve for their future. It impacted and contributed to Multicultural Education by allowing more bilingual diversity in the United States. -
The Refugee Act of 1980
The Refugee Act of 1980 was signed into law by President Jimmy Carter. It reforms immigration law to admit refugees for humanitarian reasons and results in the resettlement of more than three-million refugees in the United States including many children who bring special needs and issues to their classrooms. Impacted the Multicultural Education by bringing others to help contribute to society with diversity and adding change. -
Proposition 187
The agreement states that no child in the state of California will be deprived of an education or stripped of health care due to their place of birth. It impacted Multicultural Education by allowing undocumented aliens in California to get an education and have access to health benefits without being denied.
