    This revolutionized the educational system because, following the new accountability for student success placed on teachers, this allows teachers to have input in the student's ability which may impede the teacher's job of teaching. This also allowed teachers to identify these disabilities early in ages 3-2 and birth-2.

    The American Association of Mental Retardation became the American Association of Intellectual Development and Disabilities. This is important in shaping multicultural education because the terminology was offensive and initiated the Act.

    Due to the gap of standardization and streamlined learning in grades 3-8 the government initiated a state standard that must be met by educators. How is this affects multicultural education is the teachers are more focused on these standards instead of the individuals. The ability to differentiate instruction is limited because teachers have to teach to a specific standard.

    President Obama implemented the Every Student Succeeds Act which invites each state to apply for flexibility with Common Core in exchange for state-developed plans designed to improve educational outcomes for all students. This helped teachers close achievement gaps, increase the equity and improve quality of instruction. This affects multicultural education because there are many things that impact a kids ability to learn, not all teaching can be streamlined.

    The largest mass school closure in U.S. history. Primarily affecting low-income families. This affects multicultural education because these students will go to other public schools where teachers face over-crowding in classrooms and aren't able to meet the individual needs of students due to capacity.

    Cut 4000 Teachers in Philadelphia
    This massive cut in staffing affected all areas of faculty including teachers, assistant principals, noon-aids, and so on. This kind of event creates an unsafe learning enviornment as these responsibiliteis will be shifted onto other faculty members. The inclusion and quality of teaching is also imapcted.

    2013 Pierson Attack in Colorado
    Following many other attacks in schools, Karl Pierson entered a High School with a plan seek revenge on faculty who had disciplined him. This sheds light on the importance of multicultural education. The relationships developed with students can be the difference between life and death. This act of retaliation could have had some cues that would've been noticed by faculty.
  • Transgender Policy Adoption

    Transgender Policy Adoption
    Minnesota marked 33rd to initiate transgender females to compete on female sports teams. Women had previously been granted the same allowance for male sports teams. This affects multicultural education because the incorporation and acceptance of all students is eminent in student success.
