The Formation of Manchester United FC
In 1878, the Newton Heath LYR (Lanchaster and Yorkshire Railway) FC was formed for the new Manchester United FC. The team played games against other teams in other departments and other railway companies. -
Early Matches 1878 - 1887
Newton Heath LYR formed a team; a team of "tough, diligent men who formed a powerful side". In 1882 they played many friendly matches. The following season, they competed in the Lancaster Cup, although lost 7-2 to Blackburn Olympic. In 1886 they entered the FA cup and ended as 2-2. They ended up awarding a tie. -
Manchester United Move Into Old Trafford
In 1910, Manchester United has their fixed stadium in Old Trafford. -
World War II (1939 - 1945)
Because of World War II, football was stopped, because of the fact it died out due to the German bombing raids. The German bombs made many cities get destroyed including their stadiums. These stadiums costed £4800 to remove all the materials that were left on the war and £17,478 to rebuild the stadiums. During the time when the stadium was being reconstructed, Manchester United continued to play in Maine Road, a different football stadium, which was actually Manchester City's Football stadium. -
Matt Busby (1945 - 1965)
In 1945, Matt Busby was the new manager for Manchester United. He demanded control over player and because of him, many goals were scored. -
Munich Air Disaster
The football team was returning from the Euro Cup in 1958 and unfortunately an accident occurred. -
George Best
George Best was a professional football player, who played for Manchester United during 1963 - 1974. He was known as one of the 'best' (get it) football players, especially for Manchester United. He was voted at the 8th best football player in the world before he died. Ryan Giggs
Ryan Giggs was something special for Manchester United. He joined on his 14th birthday in 1987. In 1990 he signed a professional contract to join Manchester United. From now, he has made over 900 appearances and he was permanently a left winger. During his time in United, he has won 13 Premier Leagues, four FA Cup winner's medals, two champion league medals and a World Clup Cup Medal. -
The Treble
The Treble was three trophies won in one season by Manchester United. The Manager who won the treble was Alex Ferguson. -
Ronaldo Joins Manchester United
In 2003, Cristiano Ronaldo joins Manchester United for 12.75 million, although he left shortly after in 2009 for 80 million. -
Alex Ferguson Retires
On 8th May 2013, Alex Ferguson retires,a lthough he would remain as the club ambassador. The next day, the manager mentioned that David Moyes would replace him. -

Today, Manchester United have had many records and trophies, such as the FIFA World Cup once, in 2008, The European Cup three times, and the FA Challenge cup 12 times. Their loss to win ratio is good, and have good players, such as Wayne Rooney, David De Gea and Ryan Giggs.
