The start of the internet became a thing back in 1969, it wasn’t until the 1990s and the launch of the first proper browser that the Internet became really popular that browser was Yahoo! -

The invention of cable in the 1980s and the expansion of the Internet in the 2000s opened up more options for media consumers than ever before.
