  • Minecraft

    Minecraft
Minecraft is a 3D platformer, sandbox/survival game. My first introduction to it was through YouTube watching people play the game, after I went to a friend's house and they let me play. I only then was able to play when I begged my parents to buy me a copy. It was my way of being creative, teaching me about crafting, survival, building, and was infinitely fun. I loved to play multiplayer on servers, and it had that strong social element for me. Minecraft [Video Game]. (2009). Mojang.
  • Sims 3

    Sims 3
A childhood classic that I loved, it was one of those creative outlets I had as a child other than drawing. I loved the customisability of the characters, and it introduced me to sandbox storytelling. It was my first introduction to custom content. I had the DVD, my parents bought me some expansions packs. I still keep up with news in the franchise. When the Sims 4 came out, I immediately played that too. Sims 3 [Video Game]. (2009). Maxis.
  • Portal 2

    Portal 2
A puzzle platformer, the player must use teleportation and portal physics to solve increasingly difficult puzzles. This was another story game that had a plot-twist during the story. It was one of the first console games I ever played on Xbox 360, and it was my favourite at that time for it's story and puzzle mechanics. The dystopian, mech art style had so much visual identity, unique to the franchise. Portal 2 [Video Game]. (2011). Valve.
  • Presentable Liberty

    Presentable Liberty
Presentable Liberty was an indie psychological horror game. You are trapped in a jail cell and can't leave, forced to piece together clues from letters you receive and other small events in the cell. It was an important game for me because it all takes place in one environment and manages to be incredibly engaging for a good few hours, which taught me that you can make a great narrative with very limited resources by using your creativity. Presentable Liberty [Video Game]. (2014). Spreadcamp.
  • The Beginner's Guide

    The Beginner's Guide
The Beginner's Guide was a story game about Davey, who struggles to understand his, friend, Coda. It was made by Davey Wreden, who also created The Stanley Parable. It was a groundbreaking game for me, using metanarrative and other writing devices to throw the audience for a loop. It had a huge plot twist (so I can't say too much about it for spoiler reasons). It was and still is so unique. An influential, underrated game. The Beginner's Guide [Video Game]. (2015). Everything Unlimited Ltd..
