A Phenakistiscope was an optical toy that had images around a wheel- like object that were each frames of an object in motion. If the object was spun it would give the illusion of the images moving. -
Zoetrope
A zoetrope was an object with images inside. They had little holes you could see the images thorugh and when the object was spun at a high speed, the images would give the illusion of motion if you look though the holes. -
Zoopraxiscope
A zoopraxiscope is a device invented by Eadward Muybridge. This device worked by showing a sequence of non-moving pictures in rapid succession. -

Leland Stanford's Bet
Leland Stanford made a bet of $25,000 that a horse's hooves come off the ground all at once while it's running fast. He set up 12 camera with tripwire so when the horses ran over them the cameras would snap. -
Kinetoscope
The kinetoscope was built by Thomas Edison (who also invented the phonograph and the lightbulb) in 1891. The kinetoscope was a forerunner of the projector. A crank was turned and you looked through the viewfinder to see a 20 second looping flim. -

The Black Maria was a shed built by Thomas Edison in 1893. It was the first motion picture studio. The studio was built in New Jersey. -

The Sneeze Fred Ott's Sneeze was the first copywrighted film in America. The studio that produced it was the Black Maria. The film was a few seconds long of Fred Ott sneezing. -
