    Edison created the light and th phonograph frame. Thomash Edisons company had devised the peephole kinrtoscope. Was making a bit of money selling these device.
  • How it started

    It all started with a bet for 25000. People argued that a galloping horse had all four feet off the ground at the same time. They set up cameras in which rapids sequenceof photos. they put them together and found out they have all four legs of the ground.
  • Cinematographe

    Lumiere brother in france who first did what thomash Edison did not want to do. They made a projector that could show motion pictures on screen for an audience. It was called the cinematographe
  • Short films

    They statred to to produce a series of short filmss. That ran for 30 to 60 seconds. They started to show them in the paris cafe for one-franc. Showing films such as a man falling off of horse
  • Vaudeville

    During this time period ,the vaudeville (a small theater) was populars.They got one-up on the competion and fill in times between acts.Vaudeville expanded into nickelodeons.
  • Nicklodeon

    Nickelodeon were small theatre that feature films. That wa saccompanied bypiano music and sound effects. With one or two vaudeville acts.
  • The Great Train Robbery

    Thomas Edison , Edwin Porter employee who in 1903, created the first U.S. Narrative films, called The Great Train Robbery. It had 14 scenes and lasted 12 minutes.
  • NIckelodeon Theatres

    In 1910 , Nickeodeon theatre were attracting 26-million viewers each week. The numbers had duble in the next 5 years. It soon attracted potential for big profits.

    Thomas Edison, had several companies that formed a trust call motion pitcure patents company. They had a plan to control things like projection equipment , and film distribution and exhibitoin.
    Independeent films companies try to compete.
  • Flims

    Many of the films were shot outside. they need alot of light to accommodate the slow speed of the film. THe weather in the east coat did not often help.
  • MPPC vs Independent

    The MPPC didnt want to list the names of the actors just in case they got famous and demanded more money . So actors started to move to the west coast where the wouldnt be bothered . They immeditialy recognized the advantages.
