First Panning Camera
Before 1897 films were composed of still shots. This changed in 1897 when the first camera that would pan was released. -
First Film Studios
Before 1897 films didn't have a specific place to be filmed. It was like this till 1897 when the first rooms to shoot film were created. These rooms were called film studios. -
Use of Animation
In 1899 the first use of animation was used in film. -
Action through multiple shots
Before the 1900's film had not devolped enough to have consitent and related action through multiple shots. In the 1900s the directors started having the action in different shots related to eachother. This was huge for film as it was the first step to having a story told throughout a film. -
Succesful Theatre Showing
Before 1910 no film had been successful in a theatre showing. The first successful showing was called "The Nickelodeon". -
Actors recieved Credit
By 1910 actors and actresses began recieving credit for their preformances in film. This was a big step forward. It put us closer to today where the actors and actresses are a big part of a movie. -
Artificial Lighting
Around 1910 direcors began using artificial lighting. This was a big advance in film because it drove the quality of the films up. Today artifical lighting is used in almost all movies. -
First Film with Sound
Before 1927 film had no sound intergrated into it. That changed in 1927 when the technology had finally advanced far enough to include sound in the film. This was a big step in film. -
Release of "The Jazz Singer"
In 1927 Warners released The Jazz Singer. This was the first film with in sync dialougue. A revolutionary feature at the time. -
Golden Age of Britsih Film
In the 1950's there was a rise of war drama and war propaganda because of the wars. Most of these films were made in Britain. This is known as the "Golden Age" for British film.
