The $25,000 Bet
The Govenor of California at the time Leland Stanfor made a wager to Eadweard Muybridge that when a horse is running fast all their legs come off of the ground. Mubridge then figured how he would get the shot of the horse galloping was to line up 12 cameras and shot it all in a sequence when the horse ran by. Leland Stanfor then won his bet for $25,000. -
Peephole Kinetoscope
The Kinetoscope is an early motion picture device. It was designed for to be viewed by one indivivdual at a time through a peephole viewer window at the top of the device. The ideas that came from Eadweard Muybridge appears to have spurred Edison to pursue the development of a motion picture system. -
Lumiere Brothers
The Lumiere brothers were Auguste Marie Louis Nicholas and Louise Jean Lumiere from Besancon, France. The brothers were one of the first filmmarkers in history. They created cinematography which allowed simulataneous viewing multiple parties. Their first film was "Sortie de L'isine de Lyon" a french movie made in 1894. -

First Movie Theater
The first permanent home for showing movies in th United States was opende at 632 Canal Street, corner of Exchange Alley. It was called Vitascope Hall and the admission the cost was 10 cents. for an extra of 10 cents you could get to look into the booth where the man was operating the vitascope. The theatre had two shows per day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then 5 p.m. and stayed until 10 p.m. -
Vaudeville expanded into Nickelodeon
Nickelodeon was the first indoor theatre showing projected motion pictures . They were called Nickelodeon because you would only need to pay a nickel in order to see a movie. And Odeion is a ancient Greek word for Roofed over theater. -
First U.S. narrative film
The Great Train Robbery is a 1903 American silent short western film written, produced, and directied by Edwin S. Porter. The moview was ten minutes long but it was a big milestone in film making.The film is about two bandits breaking into a railroad telegraph office. The movie produced about 18 frames and the budgent was only $150. -

Founded in 1908 Motion Picture Patents Company was the trust of all the major American film companies. Mation Picture Patents Company was also known as the Edison Trust since it was founded by Thomas Edison. The MPPC was dominate in showing/ producing foreign films on American screens. -

Mary Pickford was born in April 8, 1882 she was a canadian american motion picture actress. She was a co founder of the film studio Artist and on of the 36 founders of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She was known as the "America's Sweetheart" or "Little Mary". She then died in May 29, 1979 at the age 87. -
Charlie Chaplin Salary
SIr Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin was born in April 16, 1889. Charlie Chaplin is a English actor and filmmaker who rose to fame in the silent film era. He has been perfoming since he was 7 years old. Entering films in 1914- 1917 Chaplin was apart of the NEw York Picture Company.
