Muybridge's Bet
On June 15th,1878, Muybridge made a bet with one of his friends by betting $25,000 that all 4 of a horses legs come off the ground at once. He set up cameras in order to take multiple pictures of the horse as it was running and looked at the photos that he had taken. He ended up winning the bet and created the start of something that would change the future. -
The First Sneeze
Thomas Edison had successfully recorded a sneeze on film. This was the first time that sound had ever been added to film and was a huge milestone. -
The New Colors
Edward Raymond Turner produced the earliest known color motion picture film footage in some short test films with one of his children sitting at a table with sunflowers and a goldfish in a bowl. Before this all film was in black and white and for the majority after was still in black and white because color films were so expensive at the time. -
Women's Light
The first professional film stuntwoman was Helen Gibson, who often stunt-doubled for actress Helen Holmes. This in a way forwarded the level of seriousness taken in the film industry and priority of safety of the actors involved in the film. -
Women Creators
Alice Guy, the world’s first female filmmaker and a key figure in the development of narrative film. This motivated other females in the business to take the lead and have their ideas put to the big screen. -
New Rules
The Catholic church had put restrictions on what could be put onto film, since most people were catholic at the time, and outlined what was acceptable. Alcohol, sex, and criminal activity were some of the reasons for this pressure and restrictions. -
Different Races of Actors
In the 6th film of the Mr.Wrong series, the lead role was played by a Chinese-American actor, Keye Luke and marked the first time an American film had an Asian actor take the lead role. -
More Color
Hollywood began to develop ways to contract free television’s gains by the increasing use of color, and by introducing wide-screen films. -
Sophia Loren
Sophia Loren was the first foreign-language performer to win the Best Actress prize for the movie, Two Women. This helped encourage others to act as well. -
Use of Computers
Computers were being used more and more for more advanced effects in movies and made some scenes more “realistic” and it was a huge change in cinema history. -
Jurassic Park
In the movie Jurassic Park, the creators of the movie wanted to use puppets and CGI within the movie. This worked out amazingly and the first Trex scene they used a puppet animatronic but for the rest of the film it was made from CGI. -
DVD
The DVD recorder was becoming popular at this point in time and was the best way to recorded and watch TV shows or movies and become a common household appliance.
