Early Period
Moving images were made by revolving drums and disk. Simon Von Stampfer from Austria, Joseph Plateau from Belgium, and William Horner from Britain cretaed their own moving picture projection. Simon(Stroboscope), Joseph(Phenakistoscope), William(Zoetrope). -
Creation of Negatives
William H. Fox Talbot was a British inventor. He made paper sensitive to light by bathing it in salt and silver nitrate. The silver turned dak when exposed to light which made it negative. which the negaitive could be used to print positives on other sheets of light sensitive paper. -
animated pictures
The first machine made in the United States that showed animated pictures was a device called the “wheel of life” or “zoopraxiscope”. Created by William Lincoln, moving drawings or photographs were watched through a slit. This gave others the idea of animated cartoons or movies. -
Commercial
The first commercil exhibiton of film was on April 14, 1894. it was at the Kinetoscope parlor ever built. This was the start of Commercials. -
Lumiere Brothers
Two French brothers, Louis and August Lumiere patent a combination movie camera and projector, capable of projecting an image that can be seen by many people. Lumiere and his brother were the first to present projected, moving, photographic, pictures to a paying audience of more that one person. It was called Cinematographe. -
Cartoon
French caricature artist Émile Cohl created what is considered to be the world's first animated cartoon. This was a start for animation and children shows. the first nimation shown to public was at Musée Grévin in Paris -
Movie theaters
By this time there is about 9,000 movie theaters in the United Sates. the typical film is only about 10-12 minutes long. All the actors in the movies were still anonymous. -
Actors recognized
Actors in Amercia started to receive screen credits. this allowed he actors to become more famous and more films were made. The actors also got more money since directors knew who they were. -
Refreshments
Around this time theaters began to open refreshment stands. next year the first drive-in theater was open in New Jersey. People began to enjoy this because watchig films became more comfortable. -
Snow white
Walt Disney firstt full lenght animated film was made, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This movie was such a success that in three years more famous animated movies were made. they were Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, and Bambie. -
film directors
Film director’s begin to express their personal vision and creative insights.This led to some great critical and commercial successes, like The Godfather and Jaws. However it resulted in some failures, including Peter Bogdanovich’s At Long Last Love. -
IMAX cinema
More films began being to release IMAX cinema. The first was Disney animation Treasure Planet. This allowed people to feel/see a film as if they were in it.
