A device that had to be cranked up to see several image move to make a little film. The images were about cartoons or about everyday things. Only one person can view the images. -

Thomas Edison & his partner William Dickson had made the first projector to be viewed by more people compared to the kinetoscope. they filmed 20 sec long films of different things. But Thomas Edison didn't release it to the public. -
First Public Projector
Two brothers from France named Auguste and Louis Lumiere. They were the first to publicly release the projector unlike Thomas Edison. they called the motion pictures cinematographe. -
Nickelodean
Nickelodeon was made right after the vaudeville stages. It was a more popular and more entertaining than the vaudeville.It would soon be have more views later in the years. -
No Money For Actors and Actress ?
In New York they did not put the names of people who were acting in their films because they didn't want them to demand more money for what they are doing. -
First Narrative Film In The U.S.
The film was called "The Great Train Robbery". The film lasted 20 minutes but was a great success and had 14 scenes total. -

Thomas Edison and other companies had joined together to make a company called the "Motion Picture Patents Company". They had controlled raw film stock and projection equipment. -

Nickelodeon had attracted 26 million people each week or so. Then doubled in views 5 years later. More people started to invest in making money from films. -
Why Did Film Go To California ?
Well when the Motion Picture Patents Company(MPPC)existed they would try to force you to use their equipment and make you pay money. If you tried to make a movie on your own you would most likely have you equipment broken by him Thomas Edison himself. Another reason is because of lighting it was hard in New York do to the weather there. -
Actors Of The 20th Century
Charlie Chaplin was famous for his silent comedy and was paid $150 a week. In 1917 he was making millions of dollars for every film he did in California.
