Eadweard Muybridge made abet with friends about a horse having all four hooves off the ground at full speed. They agreed to the bet. They set up cameras for a race. The cameras took a series of pictures of the horse running. Muybridge was right. -
Kinetoscope Parlor
Thomas Edison made the kinetoscope for one person as a way to make more money. The kinetoscopes were things you looked through to see moving images. The images were presented rapidly to make them seem as though they were moving. -
Projecting Motion Pictures
The Lumiere brothers in France are credited with inventing the first projector as Thomas Edison did not want to unveil his so that he could make more money. They called their invention cinematographe. They made short films and showed them in a Paris cafe.They were only about 30 to 60 seconds each. -
Nickelodeons
Vaudevilles are small theaters that showed short skits, comedy routines, and song and dance numbers. They were popular during the rise of motion pictures. They filled in time between acts with motion pictures. They later expanded into nickelodeons. -
First Narrative Film
The first narrative film was created in 1903. It was made by Edwin Porter. He was an employee of Thomas Edison. It was called The Great Train Robbery. It was the first film to tell a story. -
Warner Bros.
The Warner Bros. company was founded in 1923. Its founders were Jack, Sam, Harry, and Albert Warner. Their first cartoon was the Looney Tunes in the 1930s. -
First Sound Movie
The first movie with sound was The Jazz Singer in October of 1927. It was recorded with a vitaphone. Sound is movies soon became the standard. -
First Animated Film
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is considered the first. There were others before it, however Walt Disney's film was the first to be completely made of hand drawn animations. It was created in 1937. -
First Colored Film
It is considered to be "Cupid Angling" which was created in 1918. James Clerk Maxwell, Auguste Lumière, Thomas Sutton, and Louis Lumière were the creators of the first colored film. However, there are hand colored segments dating back to 1902. -
First Film Camera
It was created around 1889 by a team Edison picked. It was called the Strip Kinetograph. This team was lead by William Kennedy Laurie Dickson. -
First Video Camera
George Eastman started making paper film in 1885. It was he who started the use of photographic film. He called his first created camera "Kodak" and offered them for sale in 1888. -
First CGI Film
CGI was first used in Westworld. The movie was created in 1973. It was directed by Michael Crichton who was known for science fiction and thriller type movies.
