The Discovery of motion
A British photographer, Eadweard Muybridge was the first to sucessfully make pictures move. He showed others people moving, as well as animals. This all started because he made a bet. -
Developing of a Camera
As the movement of pictures grew to be more popular more and more people were interested in it. Etienne Marey had made a camera that was somewhat shaped like a gun. And this took 12 pictures per second. -
Movie Camera was Invented
The first movie camera took several pictures at once to create the film. What they did was flip all the pictures quickly at once, making it seem like it's actually moving. Thomas Edison was the first to fully develop this and called it the "Kinetoscope". -
First seen by Many
Brothers Louis and August Lumirere made a combination of a movie camera and projector. Which made this able to be seen by many people at once instead. -
Turning point of Edison
Edison claims and says that anyone else using equiptment are all based on his Kinetograph. Basically he is telling other's that have developed better inventions are based on what he created first. -
A Rise in Motion Picture
During this time, a rise was beginning as movie making was becoming more popular. So Henry Miles had made the first film exchange. This let others rent films instead of buying them. -
Story Telling
Edwin S. Porter who was a chief of production shifted the film production to something more. And that was story telling films. Some that the did was "The Life of an American Fireman and The Great Train Robbery". -
Theaters
Harry Davis was the first to invent the first theater. And this theater was named "Nickelodeon" which was located in Pittsburgh. -
First Animated Cartoon
The first animated cartoon was made by many drawings. And the drawings were took into a photograph and then made into what we now know as animation. -
Increase in Theaters
Around this time there are now about 9,000 movie theaters in the United States. The regular film is now only 10-12 minutes long. And the performers (actors) were still unknown for what they do. -
Performers taking Fame
After the long time of performers not being noticed, they soon were. And their fame and popularity grew as more people recongnized them from the movies they were in. -
First Inflight Movie
The first inflight movie was black and white. It was a silent film and was called "The Lost World".
