Renaissance
Girls were allowed to marry at 12 and boys at 14. The Nurses breastfed the babies. Babies were kept in a walker because their houses were dangerous. Familes had a 2 bedroom house. Each family member most likely had 2 shirts and 1 pair of shoes. Parents never made it to grandparentcy because of disease. -

Civil War
Of 2,888 slave marriages in Mississippi, Tennessee and Louisiana, over 32% of marriages were dissolved by masters as a result of slaves being sold away from the family home
By 1900, there were 4 divorces for every 1,000 marriages. Women started having children at the age of thirteen, and by twenty they were expected to have four or five children. -
1920's
Courtships:
Women weren't forced to take the role of “housewife”
Same sex marriage was still forbidden
Women gained power in a marriage due to the 19th amendment that gave women the right to vote.
When men went to war the women had to take the role of the men, and go to work for their families The role of children in the 1920’s changed drastically from years past.
In years before, the children were normally working in coal mines or textile factories.
