    During this era, families consisted mostly of married, young couples. The woman stayed at home to take care of the house and kids. The dad worked in merchant shops. The kids were sent to work at an early age and married young.

    separated from kids
    children of slave mothers were slaves
    more males than females, which made it harder to find wife
