Discovery of Static Electricity
Thales (mathmetician) discovered static electricity through rubbing animal fur on amber; this led to amber being able to attract dust. -
Reintroduction of Electricity
Benjamin Franklin reintroduced electricity to public through kite with key tied to end of string which was connected to a jar. This let the electricity travel through the key into the leyden jar. In return, he received an electrical shock. -
Edison's Contribution
Thomas Edison invented direct current electricity; this also included the invention of the lightbulb. -
Nikola Tesla's Effect
Teamed up with George Westinghouse to invent Alternating Current. Allowed power to travel hundreds of miles relative to Edison's 2 mile substations. It's important to understand though that Tesla did not discover AC; he helped created an induction motor which allowed AC to work well throughout the US. -
Electricity Spreading
By 1939, electricity was not only existing in cities, but largely in rural areas. -
Present Day Effect
