- By 1855 the first law statinng curriculum requirements was passed
- Theodore Roosevelt was president
- Teachers were considered professionals
- By the close of Civil War, education was respected
- John Dewey wrote books for children to understand more and Maria Montessori helped special need kids
- Their curriculum was based of their religion
