Schools were first thought of in Australia as a way to drecrease crime. They said: crime is the result of ignorance, ignorance the result of lack of education, and threfore, education will reduce crime.

1872 compulsory schooling

School fees were free, and they were equiped better; they could teach more subjects.
Universities became more popular and lasted 4 years. -
Change after WWII
Added the teaching of skills, arts and crafts to the children that were valuable for jobs. -

1980s Vocational Training
By the early 1980s the emerging economic rationalist, neo-liberal ideas favoured devolution of administrative responsibilities to schools (“the entrepreneurial school”), central control of the curriculum, and an emphasis on vocational training. -
