schools did not exist , kids worked om farms or trade in an apprenticeship. if u wanted to become a techer during this time period you couldnt drink , smoke , or marry and attend church.schools mostly forced on reading ,writing ,math , and religion. -

educators came believe that people could improve their lives and society. benjamin framklin wored to expand education opportuinites. he started a school were anyone could get educated with a pay tuition. thomas jefferson intoduced legislation to divide disticts that were education.during this time period teacher continued to positive role models , and schools continued to teach basic things. -

horace mann worked to establish free,public education for everybody . he believed everyone had the right to education.he improve primary schools.because of horace mann education teachers trained in normal schools . to gain entance in normal schoos applicants had higher expectation of teavhers knowledge. schools during this time oeriod taught more subjects. -

1880-1920 half ofthe rural population abandoned farming and moved in to towns and cities to find work . schools were still highly sergerated .african american children attended didnt schools from white.tachers were comsidered professionals.college teachers were placed in normalschools.teacher grew unhappy they wanted freedom.teachers formed a woman right union and protested to improve pay.schools progreeives believed thats schools should focus on students more as indivivals . -
