1642: Selectmen were ordered to ensure parents or masters were providing education to their students or apprentices, and if they weren't, the students were assigned to someone else to educate them.
1647: Townships of 50 households or more were required to teach reading and writing, and townships of 100 households or more were required to establish a grammar school. -
