    No Child Left Behind
    The NCLB (No Child Left Behind) Act was signed into the law by President George W. Bush and approved by Congress. The Act held schools accountable for their students academic achievements. If the school did not show progress in their students academic levels then they received fines (Sass, 2016).

    The organization known as the North American Reggio Emilia Alliance made its launch as an organization. Its primary goal was to promote the right of young children. The organization also provided information about the Reggio Emilia in early childhood.

    The Monkey Trial's latest incarnation is here. The case of Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District was ruled in by the District of Pennsylvania Court that said that teaching "intelligent design" as an alternative to evolution violates the first amendment (Sass, 2016).

    The AAMR was known as the American Association on Mental Retardation. On this date, this organization changed its name from Mental Retardation to intellectual disability. The name of this organization is now known as American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities or AAIDD (Sass, 2016).

    Barack Obama became the president of the United States. He promised a change in the No Child Left Behind Act. The USA was in two wars at this time so changes to the Act were no where close to being made. The USA was also in tremendous debt also being a factor in not changing the Act (Sass, 2016).

    American Reinvestment and Recovery Act
    This act provided billions of dollars for education. About half of that money went to local school districts for prevention of layoffs. This act included what is called the "Race to The Top" which offered aother 4.35 billion dollar program to induce the reform of K-12 education (Sass, 2016).

    During this time, the US economy is declining rapidly. At this time the US is in what is called the "great recession." As a result of this, a lot of teachers are layoffed because there is not enough money to allow them to keep their job (Sass, 2016).
  • Bipartisan Budget Bill

    Bipartisan Budget Bill
    President Obama signed the bipartisan budget bill that was worth 1.1 trillion dollars. This bill helped restore some of the money that was cut from federal education programs. This was the first budget that was agreed upon by the divided government since 2009 (Sass, 2016).

  • Standardized Testing

    Standardized Testing
    President Obama believes students have too much testing. He joins what is called the "too much testing" movement. Obama annouces that no student is allowed to spend more than 2% of class time taking standardized tests. This is known as "Limiting Standardized testing" (Sass, 2016).
