Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was the third President of the United States. He strongly believed that common people should receive an education. He also helped established a free education system. He also established the University of Virginia. -
Common School
In 1830, Horace Mann created schools and tried to aim to make education available to all children regardless of economic status. Common schools established the first public schools. -
McGuffey's Readers
McGuffey's Readers were a series of books for the grade levels 1-6. McGuffey's Readers taught moral lessons, literature, science, history, spelling, lessons on behavior, etc. -
Friedrich Frobel- Kindergarten
Friedrich Frobel, a German educator, developed the idea for kindergarten.He believed that young children learn best through play. -
Horace Mann- Father of Education
Horace Mann was the first secretary of the Massachusetts State Board of Education. He was an advocate to get free education for all boys and girls. -
