    No Child Left Behind Act
    According to Alyson Klein (2015), the No Child Left Behind Act was signed by President George W. Bush in 2002 . This act was made upon the growing concern that American education wasn't internationally competitive. This act also made the schools responsible for how the children performed. Schools were not made to follow these requirements of the act, but if they were not followed, the school risked losing their federal money.

    Zelman v. Simmons-Harris

    This Supreme Court case was argued February 20, 2002 and wasn't decided on until June 27, 2002. The ruling of this case said that specific school voucher programs didn't violate the First Amendment. It was ruled this way because there were secular voucher programs available as well as religious ones. It wasn't aimed toward only one belief and students did not have to attend religious schools.

    Modification of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
    This legislature was signed by President Bush on December 3, 2004. It put several new regulations into practice regarding special education, such as, the qualification of the teachers that were teaching special education. It was also aligned with the NCLB act.

    Parents involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District No. 1
    This Supreme Court case lead to the conclusion that race could not determine what students were accepted into which school. At a close vote of 5-4, it was decided that the "racial tiebreaker" was unconstitutional. It was shown that the District's motives were not legitimate enough to allow the decisions based on race to continue.

    American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
    Signed into law by President Obama to provide more funds to public education. President Obama said that creating this act would "create or save" approximately 3.3 million jobs within the course of two years. The main focus of giving the schools more funds was to keep the schools from having to layoff workers and to have money to fix the schools when something was needed.

    President Obama signs the $1.1 trillion budget
    This bill gave back some of the funding for federal education programs that was cut because of the sequester, but the Department of Education was one section that would still have budget cuts. The sequester was put in place because Congress and President Obama couldn't find a compromise to reduce deficit costs more than they already had.
  • Milestone reached for school enrollment

    As of the Fall 2014 school year, the percentage of students that are not classified as non-Hispanic white students enrolled is a little above the percentage of non-Hispanic white students enrolled. The students enrolled that are not non-Hispanic white students is up to about 50.3% of the student population in U.S. schools. This will pose the need to make the material understandable to all students of all nationalities.

    COVID-19 SPREADS AROUND THE WORLD
    The 2019 outbreak of coronavirus was first reported in December in Wuhan, China. The disease is a virus that attacks first the respiratory system but then affects other organs of the body. China had initially claimed that the disease could not be spread person to person, but that turned out not to be true. China took extreme measures to stop the disease with a lock down of almost 50 million people for months at a time. Meanwhile, by the end of January, the disease was spreading around the world.
