  • Smith Hughes Act

    Thiis legislation marked the first federal investment in secondary vocational education, providing funding to the states for agriculture, home- making, and trade and industrial education.
  • George - Dean Act

    The George Deen Act allotted $12 million for agriculture, home economics, and trade and industrial education.
  • George-Barden Act

    appropriated $14 million per year
    in federal funds and broadened their use to include teacher edu- cation and training for marketing occupations.
  • Vocational Education Act

    Student population based funding. Included in this funding was money for economically disadvantaged and disabled students.
  • Vocational Education Amendments

    Equal opportunities for women and girls enacted.
  • Perkins 1

    appropriated $950 million dollars to support vocational education for four years.
  • Perkins 2

    The Perkins II reauthorized the Perkins I for five years and increased funding by $600 million. It provided a new federal definition of vocational education.
  • School-to-Work Opportunities Act

    linked work- based and school- based learning, supported by partnerships with industry. It expired in 2001.
  • Perkins 3

    Education Amendment Act amended the 1990 Perkins Act.
    It provided a finely detailed definition of vocational education, and received funding separate from Tech-Prep.
  • Perkins 4

    Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006. Perkins IV introduced programs of study as a new unifying concept for CTE, with $1.3 billion supporting two funding streams— the Basic State Grant and Tech Prep.
