In 1891 the United States' government established the prison system. The first Federal prison was Leavenworth, in Kansas. -
1932 - First BOP Penitentiary
The first BOP penitentiary was opened in 1932 and it was called the USP Lewisburg. It had an original design and there were the worst inmates who had committed serious crimes. -
1974 - National Institute of Corrections Established
In 1974 the National Institute of Corrections was established in order to give technical assistance to some institucions such as the local corrections agencies, investigate the behavior and establish some standards. -
1994 - Violent Crime Conduct & Law Enforcement Act
It is considered the largest crime bill in the United States History. It was passed in 1994 in order to prevent crime and to enforce law. -
2006 - National Strategy for Combating Terrorism
After the terrorist attacks on September 11th in New York, the Terrorism Act was passed in order to prevent and investigate terrorism.
