  • The Draisine or Velocipede

    The Draisine or Velocipede
    Baron Karl von Drais was an civil servant to the Grand duke of Baden in Germany. He was the inventor of the Draisine but was most commonly called the Velocipede. It was manufactured in Germany and France. The Velocipede was almost entirely constructed in wood and was designed as an alternative to the horse due to the starvation and death of horses caused by crop failure.
  • The Boneshaker

    The Boneshaker
    The Boneshaker was invented by two French Brothers, Ernest and Pierre Michaux. It was designed to make the normal Velocipede faster and less strenuous to ride by fixing cranks and pedals to the front. The Boneshaker was originally developed in France and was first manufactured from 1867- 1869 by the Michaux company. The frame was made out of stiff wrought- iron and wheels made out of wood with tyres made of iron.
  • The Quadracycles

    The Quadracycles
    The Quadracycle was invented by Andrew of Dublin, Ireland. It was designed to be a solution to the problem to low speed satiability in early cycles and were typically multi seat models. There is no consensus amongst manufacturers of Quadracycles as to what class of vehicle should be called. The Quadacycles was made by one inch square iron and was propelled with foot levers.
  • The Penny Farthing

    The Penny Farthing
    The inventor of the Penny Farthing was the Englishman, James Starley. The Penny Farthing was initially developed in Britain around about 1878s. It was designed to represent the Britain penny and farthing coin, one being much larger than the other, so the side view of the bicycle would look like a penny leading a farthing. The first manufacturing was during the same year it was developed. The Penny Farthing was made from hollow, steel tubing and a leather seat suspended on steel springs.

    John Kemp Starley was an English inventor and industrialist of the modern safety bicycle. It was designed to be way more safer than the ordinary bicycles such as the penny farthing by making it more stable. The first manufacturing process was during 1883 and was developed in London, England. The bicycle was made out of steel.

    The inventor of the Bmx bike was Scot Breithaupt a bmx pioneer. The bmx was designed so then children begin racing their bicycles on dirt tracks, inspiring them to motorcross superstars. The bmx was initially developed in California and the first manufacturing was in 1972. The materials that a bmx is mostly made of are 4130 chrome- molybdenum.

    The mountain bike was invented by Joe Breeze and was designed because you would be able to ride off road easily. The bike was mostly made from 4130 chrome- molybdenum and was initially developed in Marin County, California. Between the late 1970s and early 1980s road bike companies begun manufacturing mountain bikes.
