President Taft Throws out First Pitch
On Opening Day of the 1910 season, President William Howard Taft started the tradition by throwing out the first pitch from his front row seat at National Park in Washington.Since then, every president has thrown out a first pitch at either Opening Day, the All Star Game or the World Series. This has been a tradition that has happened in baseball for a long time.

First MLB All Star Game
The game was held on July 6, 1933 at Comiskey Park in Chicago and was attended by 49,200 fans. Chicago Tribune sports editor Arch Ward pitched the idea of a Major League Baseball All Star Game. But it became so popular, we still have All Star Games today.

The first Major League game was broadcast on August 6, 1939 when the Brooklyn Dodgers took on the Cincinnati Reds in a doubleheader. The game was just shot with a single camera.

Jackie Robinson Breaks Color Barrier
Jackie Robinson ended about eighty years of segregation in baseball in 1947, and has led the way for many African American players after him.He is known as one of the most explosive and talented players to ever play. This was important because this was the first time that African-Americans were allowed to play.

Babe Ruth's Final Yankee Stadium Appearance
Babe Ruth who had cancer at the time, attended a baseball game at Yankee Stadium. He got to meet with his fams and take pictures. Babe dies two months later. He changed baseball forever and was an insperation to thousands.

Dodgers Win 1955 World Series
The Dodgers had made it to the Worlds Series many times before. Each time they were beat by the Yankees. Most people did not think they could do it. But they pulled out the win and won their first World Series title.

Then in 1977, This Week in Baseball debuts allowing people to turn on their TV's and get coverage on what they missed. This changed baseball by paving the way for other networks to get more coverage on baseball and other sports.

Chase for the All Time Strikeout Record
I1983 season, Walter Johnson's 55-year-old record of 3508 career strikeouts still stood. Most people thought that record couldn't be broken.At the start of the 1983 season, Nolan Ryan (3,494), Steve Carlton (3,434) and Gaylord Perry (3,452) were separated by just 60 strikeouts and all trailed Johnson by less then 100 strikeouts. Ryan was the first to pass Johnson. Ryan and Carlton traded the lead 14 times during the course of the season. Carltion retired and Ryan won.

SkyDome Debuts First Fully-Functional Retracable Roof
Untill 1989, if there was heavy rain a game had to be postponed. Not anymore because the worlds first fully retracable roof debuts in Toronto. This allowed games to be played when it was raining. MLB Institutes Instant Replay on Home Runs
The MLB requires all home runs to have an instant replay to show people what happened during the play. This prevented many false calls and made the game more fair.
