First Settlers
First, settlers were Dutch (from the Netherlands) in 1606 but they did not settle. They left because of the Aborigines attacking. -
Captain James Cook
Captain James Cook arrived in New South Wales. He did not care that the Aborigines were there and took land for England. -
First Fleets
British came on ships called the "First Fleets". They left England to form prison colonies. After forming the the colony in 1788 the prisoners settled in Australia. -
Government Decisions?
The Australian government set the offical colony boundaries. these are the boundaries tha still there today. -
No More British
Austalians had enough, they started to fight back. So that they would get their land back and that there would also be no more British prisons in Australia. -
Commonwealth of Australia
The Commonwealth of Australia was established. Commonwealth is when a country becomes independent. -

This is the act where the government restricted migration from European descent. -

About 55% of the Australian population did not want a independent republic.
