history of atomic model (click on each event)

  • solid sphere model

the solid sphere model is a atomic model proposed by john Dalton in 1803. It said that all objects are made up of particles called atoms and the atoms are solid spheres that cannot be divided
  • plum pudding model

after discovering electrons in 1897 JJ Thomson suggested that the atom looked like a plum pudding as he proposed the atom consisted of positive 'dough' with alot of negative electrons in the middle of it
  • nuclear model

    nuclear model
an atomic model by Ernest Rutherford called the nuclear model suggested in a nuclear atom protons and neutrons which make up of most of the mass are located in the nucleus at the center of the atom. Also that the electrons are around the nucleus and occupy most of the volume
  • planetary model

the planetary or bohr model suggested that the electrons surround/encircle the nucleus in specific paths like planets orbiting the sun
  • quantum model

the quantum model by Erwin Schrödinger describes the three dimensional position of the electron according to a mathematical function called wavefunction
