    The thaumatrope housed a rotating mechanism with a different picture on each side. When rotated, you can see a combined picure (known as persistence of vision).

    The phenakitoscope featured spinning disks reflected in mirrors that made it seem like the pictures were moving. This device was the first widespread animation device that created a fluid illusion of motion. The phenakistoscope is regarded as one of the first forms of moving media entertainment.

    The Praxinscope expanded on the zoetrope, using multiple wheels to rotate images. It is considered to have shown the prototypes of the animated cartoon.

Felix was the first character from animation to attain a level of popularity sufficient to draw in movie audiences.

    This film features Mickey Mouse and becomes the first cartoon with the sound printed on the film. This was also the first notable success for Walt Disney studios, founded in Los Angeles in 1923. The cartoon is considered the debut of Mickey Mouse and his girlfriend Minnie making this film the third Mickey Mouse produced film.
