1st Public Library
The 1st Public Library was opened in "Charles Town", SC in November of 1698. The Assembly of South Carolina confirmed the establishment of the library by the official act in 1700, but this was even before they had enough funds for the purchase of books for the new "Publick Library." -
Jefferson's Proposed Bill
