Railroad Regulation
Congress passed the Elkins Act, which made it illegal for railroad officials to give, and shippers to recieve, rebates for using particular railroads.
the act also specified that railroads could not change set rates without notifying the public. -
Taft becomes President.
Roosevelt pledged to not run for reelection, instead he handpicked his secretary of war, William Howard Taft, to run against William Jennings Bryan. -
Fighting in Europe

Because World War 1 was such a huge conflict, the entire economy had to be rofocused on the war effort. they did this in two ways
War Industries Board- encouraged companies to use mass-production systems to increase efficiency. They also wanted them to standardize products.
Food Administration- Wilson set up the administration under Herbert Hoover. he declared one day a week "meatless," "sweetless," two days "wheatless" and two days "porkless" -
