1763 Proclamation
no settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains.
The colonist ignored this and settled anyways -
1764 Sugar act
raised taxes on refined sugar imported by the colonies.
The colonist thought it was a violation against their rights to be taxed without consent. -
1765 Stamp act
printed material have to be on stamped paper produced in London.
Violent protesters threatened stamp distributors. -
1765 Quartering act
Provided British soldiers with any accommodation or housing.
Colonist thought it violated their rights again -
1766 Repeal of the Stamp act
Took away the stamp act but introduced the Declaratory act.
Protesting stopped but no one paid any attention to the new act at first. -
1766 declaratory act
British Government had free control over the colonist.
Colonist were furious about this and once again it went against their rights -
1767 Townshed Act
Put taxes on imported goods
Colonist stopped importing British goods, -
1770 Boston Massacre
British troops killed several of the colonist.
The colonist seen British troops attacking innocent people -
1772 Gaspee affair
British customs ship ran aground in Rhode Island and the Sons of liberty group attacked and set fire to the ship. -
1773 Tea act
Put a tax on tea
Boarded the ships dressed as Natives and dumped all the tea overboard -
1774 Intolerable acts
Meant to punish colonists for dumping the tea overboard.
Colonist called the first Continental congress -
1775 Lexington and Concord
the first battle of the revolutionary war.
Colonist were upset because they lost a lot of men -
1775 Second Continental Congress
The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Olive Branch Petition- Letters to King George III which represents the last attempt by the moderate party in North America to avoid a war of independence against Britain. -
1775 Battle of Bunker hill
The first Great battle of the revolutionary war.
Lost a lot of men but were still confident about their fight. -
1776 Decleration of independence
Gave the colonies freedom from Britain.
The colonist were really happy about this.
