First Bull Run
Union Army is defeated by Confederate army at Bull Run. Thomas Jackson's brigade resists Union attacks and he becomes known as "Stonewall." This defeat pushes Union troops back to Washington. -
Shiloh
Confederate does a suprise attack on General Grants troops at Shiloh on the Tennessee River. This attack results in 13,000 Union men and 10,000 Confederate men wounded and killed. -
Draft Riots
Draft riots break out in New York as a result of Congress passing the draft affecting all male citizens between 20 and 45, but could pay a fine of 300 dollars to not be drafted. Poor immigrants reacted to the draft and murdered and injured many people. -
