English Civil War
Began when the King raised his banner in the town of Nottingham. Cavaliers fought for the principle of divine right and the consent of the people was not necessary. Roundheads/Puritans fought for government by consent. Puritans wanted to purify the church of England. -
Charles I
1625-1649; Had contempt for Parliament and also believed in divine rights of Kings. Dependent upon the assembly for money. Forced citizens to give him loans. Refusal means troops would live in their home and tried in military. -

Monarchy was fully restored because of Charles II. He signed the Treaty of Dover with King Louis XIV of France; Charles II agreed to obtain toleration for English Catholics and to join the Roman Church himself. -
The Plague
Began in Eastern Europe. Transmitted by rat flea. Worst in London killing more than half of the city's population. Whole families wiped out in matter of days. -
The Great Fire of London
3 day long fire. Thousands were homeless and driven to open fields. London reduced to ruins. Cleansed the city of the plague though making it a positive thing in the end. -
Defeat of the Spanish Armada Glorious Revolution
English destroyed many Spanish ships--only half Armada ships returned. Destroyed Spain's morale
