  • Saint-Domingue acquired by the French

    Saint-Domingue acquired by the French
    Under the Treaty of Ryswick, the Spanish cede the western end of the island of Hispaniola to the French, creating the colony of Saint-Domingue. This colony would soon become one of the most successful slave labor colonies in all of history.
  • Fort Maurepas is settled

    Fort Maurepas is settled
    After days of travel in search of the perfect spot to settle, Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville finds Fort Maurepas on the banks of the Mississippi River, making it the first colony of the French-Louisiana area.
