Enticed by a new crop called flax, Britain sends settlers to the island of New Zealand to colonize. However, the profit surrounding the agriculture of flax would never quite take off. -
French military establishes French-Sudan
The French military establishes the military colony of French-Sudan in West Africa. This was done in the hopes of gaining a tactical and military advantage for France's conquest of the region. -
Britain annexes New Guinea
Britain issues a protectorate that annexes the southern coast of New Guinea. This was more than likely done in order to keep the land out of German hands. -
The French settle in Niger
Attracted by mining, the French would create a settlement in Niger. However, frequent rebellions by the locals and a lack of development caused the French to gain very little from this colony.
