  • The Gilded Age

    A time in American history where there was an increase in goods and services, it was also a time where certain people were being treated differently. Key events during this time were industrialization, an industrial increase in steel, railroads, oil, and textiles. Thomas Edison invented the light bulb during this and Andrew Carnegie had developments in the steel industries. Mark Twain said during this time "A period of history in which everything was gilded, but nothing was gold."
  • Westward Expansion

    The United States expanded territory such as the Louisiana purchase when Thomas Jefferson purchased Louisiana territory from France. During this time Thomas Jefferson quoted " Let the land rejoice,for you have bought Louisiana for a song."
  • World War 1

    World War One was a major global conflict that was caused by nationalism, imperialism, and alliances. Some key events were the Battle of Somme and the Battle of Verdun. Some significant people in World War 1 would be Woodrow Wilson for leading the U.S. into war, and David Lloyd George for leading the British war. Wilfred Owen said " My subject is war, and the pity of war. The poetry is in the pity."
  • The Roaring Twenties

    The Roaring Twenties was a social, cultural, and economic change. Some key events were the Harlem Renaissance which was where writers, musicians, and artists like Langston Hughes. Hughes helped put back together a cultural movement that acknowledged African American identity and heritage. Langston Hughes once said “I, too, sing America. I am the darker brother. They send me to eat in the kitchen when company comes, but I laugh, and eat well, and grow strong.”
  • The Great Depression

    The Great Depression was a worldwide economic change that not only affected the United States, but countries around the world. Some key events were bank failures and global trade collapse. It had a great impact such as poverty and homelessness, unemployment, deflation and falling prices. Franklin D. Roosevelt came up with the "New Deal" which were programs and politics, providing relief, and recovery. Franklin D. Roosevelt said during this time "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
  • World War 2

    World War two was the most widespread conflict in history. This war involved most of the world's nations. Some major events during this time were Fall of France , D-Day, atomic bombs, and the Battle of Britain. Some significant people are George S. Patton for his bold leadership and aggressive tactics and Joseph Stalin who drafted Nazi Germany. During this time Anne Frank said "In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart."
  • The Cold War

    The Cold War was a period of tension between the United States and Soviet Union. Some major events during this time were the Korean War, The Berlin Blockade, and The Vietnam War. John F. Kennedy was one of the presidents during this time and his leadership was crucial movements in the Cold War. Harry S. Truman was another president who made the Truman doctrine that set the tone for the U.S. John F. Kennedy said "Let us never negotiate out of fear, but let us never fear to negotiate."
  • Civil Rights Movement

    The Civil Rights Movement was a struggle in the U.S. that targeted racial segregation and discrimination. Some major events were the Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights, and Little Rock Nine. Martin Luther King was a huge key figure during this time because of his "I had a Dream" speech. Martin Luther King also said "I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.'"
  • 9/11 Terrorist Attack

    On September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists hijacked four planes. Nearly 3,000 people died during this attack in New York, when the planes crashed into the Twin Towers. George W. Bush was the president at the time. Osama Bin Laden was the leader of the terrorist and was later killed by U.S. Navy SEALs in Pakistan. After this was settled, George W Bush said to the people "I can hear you, the rest of the world can hear you and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon."
  • Covid-19

    COVID-19 was cause by SARS-CoV-2 Virus. It then spread worldwide which led to sickness and death. Hospitals and healthcare centers were overwhelmed with COVID-19 cases. The world responded with a vaccine which helped more patients. This virus caused people to lose jobs and people were no longer able to travel. The supply chains were disrupted and trades were no longer allowed. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said "This is a time for facts, not fear. This is a time for science, not rumors."
