The space race was a race to see who could put a man in space first between the US and the USSR. It began with the USSR putting Sputnik into space in 1957. It led to many accomplishments and putting a man on the moon. The space race was officially over when the USSR collapsed. -

The Soviet Union sent nuclear missiles to Cuba and had them aimed towards America. This caused great unrest throughout the entire country and a military stand off. This whole ordeal lasted 13 days. -
