    In 1862, The Central Pacific and the Union Pacific Railroad Companies started to build the Transcontinental Railroad.This railroad would link the United States from East to West, providing a connection across the country. In 1869, the railroad was finished in Promontory, Utah. This changed the way Americans would run business by having a more efficient way of transportation.

    In 1885, William Le Baron Jenney designed the first skyscraper to be built in America. The Home-Insurance Building in Chicago was ten stories high, which was impressive back then. This new building design saved the city space by building “up” instead of “out”. With the many Americans who moved to the city, the space was very limited. This allowed the area to be better utilized, which would soon become the popular way of building for the United States.

This unit was designed to control humidity in the printing plant where Carrier worked. Can you imagine not having air conditioning present day? This wonderful invention positively influenced the lives of Americans.

Aircraft has definitely changed over the years with military, passenger, and person aircraft. The invention of flight progressed the way America experienced travel to this day.

    The "Tommy Gun" was designed in 1918 by a Kentucky gunsmith by the name of John Thompson.The idea of having a hand held gun that is powerful enough to clear enemy troops in seconds changed how war was fought. Even to this day, the Thompson Machine Gun is used in war. Unfortunately, it is also used for crime when sold to inappropriate civilians. The advanced technology during World War I would forever change how the world saw war, some for the better and some for the worse.
