    Carlos IV was one of the worst kings that Spain has had in the history. He was married to his cousin Maria Luisa de Parma with 16 years old. His confidents mans were Floridablanca ( 1788-1792) , Aranda ( 1792- 1793 ) and Manuel Godoy ( 1793- 1808 ). His son Fernando VII was his sucesor.

  • Manuel Godoy

    Manuel Godoy
    He was a very polemic character, because they said that he became first minister for being with the queen. Manuel Godoy with 18 years was cleaning horses stables. With 26 years old he became first minister. He had a lot of enemies in the clergy and court, people of the village didn’t liked him. He was supporter of enlightened despotism.

    Frenado VII was the son of Carlos IV and Maria Luisa. He was the fourth in succession to the crown. Fernando VII was consider the worst king of the history of Spain. He married his niece Maria cristina de Borbón. Maria Cristina was pregnant with a girl, so Fernando VII before he died he changed the law. In 1830 his daughter, Isabel II was born and in 1833 he died and her daughter became the queen with 3 years.

    Reign of Isabel II
    The reign of Isabel II was between 1833 - 1868. And between this years ( 1844-1854) there was a decade call modern decade. In this period they made the constitution of 1845. In this constitution is established a shared sovereignty. The power of the king was increased. Is a confessional sate and the only religion admitted is the catholic one. The administration is centralised in the mayor and the public education controlled by the state .

    The reign of Isabel II was between 1833 and 1868. In 1856 a new political party called “liberal union” was created. The lider of this political party was O’Donell. The new measure of the government was to retrieve the constitution moderated of 1845, they eliminated the national militia. This government didn’t last long.

    1858-1863: new government of O’Donell and liberal union. This was the boom of railways. Then the foreign intervention, and war of Morocco ( Spanish victory ). Improvement and expansion of public administration.
    1863-1868: new moderate governments of Narváez. End of the economic boom: economic crisis of 1866.

    The head of government was general Serrano. They made a process of implantation of a new democracy. The first thing they made is free elections for the election of constituent courts ( all political parties take part ). And the second thing they made is a new constitution ( 1869 ), and the third and last thing was a new reform of government. The prim was Serrano. The prim was the new boss of the government.

    After the abdication of the king there was a republic in which there were 4 presidents. The fist one was Figueras that lasted from February to June of 1873, he resigned. The second one was Pi I Margall that lasted from June to July of 1873, he resigned.The third one was Salmeron that lasted from July to September of 1873 and he resigned.And the last president of the first republic was Castelar that governed between September to January of 1874.

    After the king abdication it proclaimed the first republic. In the year 1873 it was a critic situation. The public state was broke, and at the same time there was the 3rd Carlist war in the north of Spain. Apart from this there was the problem of Cuba.
